DAVID Jason is to star in new 4million ITV drama Ghostboat.

The Only Fools and Horses actor read the book by George E Simpson and was so gripped that he asked if ITV wanted to film it.

Set in 1981, he plays Jack Hardy, the only survivor of a mysterious Second World War submarine disaster in the Baltic.

Hardy is called in by naval intelligence to tell his story when the sub resurfaces intact.

Ex-EastEnder Martin Kemp is also lined up for a two-parter Love Lies Bleeding and Tamzin Outhwaite will star in Vital Signs as a working class mum retraining to be a doctor.
